Thanks for inquiring -- we are all full for 2010 seasonal positions
The Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship covers practical and theoretical topics. Apprentices plant, cultivate, weed, harvest, and distribute the crops. We also meet biweekly during the growing season for discussions on topics such as soil fertility, green manures, planning, record keeping, and marketing. Work averages 40 hours/week, with an hourly wage of $8.00 and up, depending on experience. Housing is not provided, but the food is great.
The ideal apprentice is considering agriculture as a vocation and has previous farming experience. S/he will be accustomed to working long, physically demanding days in uncomfortable weather, and be both thorough and quick at completing tasks. An ability to work closely and communicate well with others is also very important, as is the ability to work alone and self-motivate. A reasonable facility with simple math is useful. A desire to learn is a must.
We have several openings. Jobs begin in April and May, and continue through August, September, and October, depending on the position. There is some potential for both positions to extend farther into the autumn, depending on the needs of our winter share program.
