July Crop Report and Upcoming Events
Summer is busting out all over at ICF. Intermittent heat waves have moved us squarely out of our early summer crops like broccoli, spinach, and head lettuce and on to summer vegetables like tomatoes, eggplant, and coming soon, watermelon. The farm team is excited to begin the harvest of many delicious crops.
We are bringing in the first root crops of carrots, sweet onions, and beets, with new potatoes not too far off. Our cantaloupe and watermelon crops are looking good enough to begin attracting the attention of four-legged friends, which we are working to exclude with fencing and other tricks. Sweet peppers from our greenhouses are not too far off. Sweet corn is also coming along, though we had to replant our first seeding, so we are still a month or so out from our first picking. Otherwise, our staple salad greens and cooking greens continue apace along with our cucumbers and summer squashes. The pumpkin crop looks great.
Pick-your-own crops look great, with the cut flower garden near peak production. Hot peppers and cherry tomatoes will start soon, and we hope to have a continuous supply of fresh herbs, scallions and beans at least through early fall.
Planting of broccoli, chicories and other fall and winter crops continues, though the pace is slowing down from our May and June frenzy. Winter squash are vining and flowering. We are approximately at “Peak Farm”, where we reach our largest planted acreage, before we begin to regularly finish many vegetable crops and replant those areas to soil-improving cover crops for the 2027 season.

Tunnel Tours: Thursday, August 6, 4:00-4:30pm and Monday, August 10, 4:00-4:30pm. Join ICF Farmers Aly and Georgia for a walking tour from pick-up of ICF’s summer greenhouses featuring tomatoes, cucumbers, and pepper crops.
Saturday, September 19, 4:00-8:00pm. ICF harvest potluck and annual meeting at Intervale Community Farm. We’ll have games, food from Mulu’s Kitchen and Catering, an amazing potluck, and a few words about happenings at ICF. More details to come!
Saturday, October 4, 10:00am-2:00pm, ICF Pumpkin Day. Ride a tractor-drawn wagon and pick your own pumpkin out of the field on one of everyone’s favorite days of autumn!
ICF Board Elections, later autumn. Interested in serving on the governing board of Intervale Community Farm Cooperative? Any ICF Co-op member in good standing may run for the board in our fall 2026 election when 3 seats will be up for election. The ICF board sets long term strategic direction while keeping an eye on how things are going now. Board members receive a Small Share annually for their service and are a key contributors to ICF’s long term success. You can read more about the ICF board and current members here.
